My Testimony

This is my testimony of how I came to know God for myself. I had always heard people talk about God but I never knew Him personally. One night with God changed my life completely. I hope these words show you how my faith journey began and also inspire you to know God for yourself. It is important to me that other people are able to feel God’s presence as I did in that moment. 

I have been a Christian my whole life. I was baptized as a baby and at the end of 8^th grade I was confirmed. At that time, my journey with God was just beginning. I had always known who God is but I had never felt a close relationship with Him. On October 22, 2018, I felt close to God for the first time in my life. Now I feel called to write down my life-changing experience.

One thing I have always struggled with is a fear of making mistakes. I always think about the mistakes I have made and what I could have done differently. Before I knew God, those thoughts would even keep me up at night. It wasn’t a major problem until I started driving. I started thinking of those mistakes I could make when driving and how one small mistake could change my life forever. That thought scared me a lot. Every night I would lie awake in bed not only thinking about the mistakes I had made in the past but the mistakes I could make in the future. It got to the point where I would be awake two or three hours every night and I knew something had to change. I decided to turn to God with my fears.

When I was going through those difficult times, I decided to start a prayer journal instead of only talking to God in my mind. It helped me to focus and take time to think about what I wanted to say. That night, after I had just asked God to give me confidence and courage, my eyes went to the bottom of the page. Joshua 1:9 was written, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” That meant so much to me and I immediately felt God moving through me for the first time, bringing calmness.

That night I fell asleep right away for the first time in a while. I haven’t had trouble sleeping ever since then because I know I can trust God with all my challenges. Every time I am nervous about something or I start thinking about making mistakes, I remind myself of Joshua 1:9. I remember that I should be strong and courageous and not terrified because God is always with me.

The experience I had with God that night changed my life forever. Every day since then, I have felt my faith getting stronger. It gives me confidence to know the power God has in my life. I know I can trust Him and that He will keep me safe. I also know the life-changing power that God has and I want other people to be able to feel that too. That night, God taught me why it is so important that everyone has the opportunity to know Him and that is my motivation for starting this blog. I don’t want anyone to have to go through sleepless nights like I did when I was living in fear.
